Cabo Polonio is in Valizas (Rocha Department). It resembles an irregularly width sandy land band of 35 km long and 5 to 7 km broad. There are dunes that reaches more than 30 meters high falling in line in the wind direction.
This system of dunes is unique in Uruguay and forms one of the few areas with modifiable dunes on the American shore

This city maintains the charm and beauty of the colonial architecture. UNESCO has recognized it as a World Patrimony. There is not another distinction like this one in our Country. It is an existing testimony of the Conquer period. Its streets and stones tells us about invasions, battles, pillages and more than one love story.- Walking around makes us feel different emotions and we can perceive its houses, yards, old water wells, churches, ruins, until the sun set waiting the river color to get dark.
